Consultancy Report

A consultancy report covers everything a basic report does but goes into far more detail. It may tell you the characters are not well developed enough, that your descriptions are over-long and dull, or that something in the plot makes no sense.

This report also assesses what the chances of finding an agent or publisher are and makes suggestions regarding your best way to market.

What will we do?

1) An experienced editor will read your whole manuscript.

2) A software-based analysis of your whole manuscript will be carried out and around a 1000 words sample mark-up done.

3) The editor will review your outline or synopsis if you have one.

What will you get back?

The report will contain feedback from an editor on:

1) your writing style, and if this is likely to impress an agent/publisher or not.

2) how many errors there are based on the software analysis and the sample mark-up.

3) if a full edit seems warranted with a full explanation as to which type(s) and why.

4) if your outline/synopsis is likely to be of interest to an agent/publisher or not.

5) in the case of a picture book, if the images are good, bad or indifferent.

6) the strength of the storyline, characterisation, dialogue and use of description.

7) whether or not your manuscript is ready for an agent/publisher and if not, why not.

8) what the chances of publication are, and what changes might need to be made to enhance those chances.

What is not covered by a Consultancy Report?

1) The editor will not do a full mark-up NOR make any corrections - but will indicate if there is a problem or not.

2) The editor will not FULLY analyse your story for consistency or internal contradictions but will report back on general sense.

What does it cost and how long will it take to do?

£400 flat fee up to 50,000 words, £10 per 1000 words thereafter. Please email us for turnaround times as these will vary depending on how busy we are.
